gårDagens kvinna: Ruth Agnes McCall Robertson (1905-1998)
Amerikansk fotograf och reporter under och efter andra världskriget. 1949 initierade hon en djungelexpedition till Churún-merú (Ängelfallet) i Venezuela. Flera tidiga försök att nå fallet hade misslyckats. Hon mätte fallhöjden till 980 meter, 15 gånger så högt som Niagarafallet och dubbelt så högt som Empire State Building. Nyheten spreds runt världen innan hennes egen artikel i National Geographic. I dag är fallet uppkallat efter Jimmy Angel, den förste pilot som såg fallet uppifrån.
The Daily Bridge
Above Cricklade the bridges usually have no names. There are six pedestrian, one uses the former railway bridge for Midland and South Western Junction (above), and another is at Hailstone House.
There are twenty road bridges, some of them have names: Manor Farm, Brook Farm,
Waterhay Bridge
Neigh Bridge
Parker’s Bridge
and one south of Ewen.
Ashton Keynes is a confusing place when it comes to the Thames. There are six bridges within the community, High Road, The Derry, Gosditch, Church Walk, Church Lane and B4696. But there is an alternate course of the river through Ashton Keynes with two bridges: High Bridge and Three Bridges. Read more about it (in Swedish) in my travel blog.
