Marguerites pappa var cirkusakrobat, men ingen var intresserad av cirkus under den franska revolutionen, så han sålde hemmagjord medicin istället. Pappan var emot hennes cirkusdrömmar, så hon letade upp en gammal vän till honom som lärde upp henne i smyg. När hon var 11 år gick hon på lina för publik första gången. Det var så lyckat att familjen startade en cirkusgrupp med dottern som huvudattraktion. När hon var 18 gifte hon sig med akrobaten Julian Saqui och tog sig artistnamnet Madame Saqui. Hon lindansade på Grand Tivoli i Paris, inför Napoleon för att fira hans segrar och mellan Notre Dames två torn, 70 meter över marken.
